This website was created in 2011 as a tribute to one of the most admirable musical careers in film history. During a career of over forty years as a film composer, Alfred Newman wrote over two hundred film scores scores, including some of the best known in cinema history. He also arranged and conducted the scores for numerous other films, and to this day he is still widely regarded as Hollywood's greatest conductor.
A regular collaborator with several of the most famous directors in history, including John Ford and William Wyler, some of Newman's best known film compositions include Street Scene (1931), Wuthering Heights (1939), The Mark of Zorro (1940), How Green Was My Valley (1941), The Song of Bernadette (1943), Captain from Castile (1947), Prince of Foxes (1949), Love is a Many Splendored Thing (1955), How The West Was Won (1962), The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965), and his last, Airport (1970). Notable work as an arranger and / or conductor includes With a Song in My Heart (1952), The King and I (1956), Camelot (1967), and Call Me Madam (1953).
The winner of nine Academy Awards out of an astonishing total of forty five nominations, Newman remains to this day the most honoured musician in Oscar history.
